UAE Team Emirates’ italian rider has announced on his social media that he will be participating in the Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia – Región de Murcia – Gran Premio Banco Sabadell 2022.
Throughout his entire career, he has been a very reliable rider in sprints and ‘one-day’ races. He has won at every Grand Tour: 1 stage victory in the 2016 Giro d’Italia, 3 stages at the Tour de France (2013, 2014 and 2019), and an astonishing 4 stage win in the Vuelta a España in 2017. One of them, in Alhama de Murcia.
Other remarkable achievements are his 2 victories at Paris-Tours, a European Championship in 2018, and an intense battle with Mathieu van der Poel in the Tour of Britain, in which he won a stage.
2022 will mark his fifth participation in a row in our race. He has been a very active rider and has come close to victory on several occasions.
His best result in the overall standings is the fourth that he achieved in 2018. In front of him, Luis León Sánchez, Alejandro Valverde and Philippe Gilbert. One year later, he was third in the last stage. Once again, behind Luis León Sánchez and Alejandro Valverde.
In 2020, he lost all his chances in the first stage. As everyone that wasn’t in the breakaway did. He finished 16th overall, 5th among the riders that lost time in Caravaca de la Cruz.
His most discreet role came last year. Hours before the start, his participation was announced by surprise. Under the rain that made Soto a prophet in his own land, he finished in 40th place. A result that has a greater relevance when you see that only 46 runners were able to finish the race.
In 2022 he returns to the regional race with the UAE Team Emirates after opening his season at the Vuelta a la Comunidad Valenciana. The route is perfectly suited to his characteristics, as it goes very well through the mid-mountains and has one of the best speed peaks of the participants.
You will be able to follow the Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia - Region of Murcia - Gran Premio Banco Sabadell next February 12th on Eurosport, Teledeporte and 7Tv Región de Murcia. DirecTV will also broadcast the race in the south of the United States, Central America and South America
